AID FOR TURKEY
£16,000,000 CREDIT LONDON NEGOTIATIONS MONEY FOR ARMAMENTS THE DARDANELLES FORTS By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received May 22, 0.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 21 Negotiations have been nearly completed in London for a credit agreement with Tni'key involving a sum of £16,000,000. The Australian Associated Press says Turkey will receive £6,000,000 for armaments, including aeroplanes and submarines, and for renewing the identical fortifications at the Dardanelles whence the Turks fired cn New Zealand and Australian soldiers and the British Navy. The balance of £10,000,000 involves an ordinary trade transaction. This accords with Britain's consistent aim to stand well with the new Turkey and enable her to modernise her Navy and Air Force armaments. It is tantamount to assuring that Britain's former enemy will be her ally in tho event of a Mediterranean emergency.
A messago from Ankhara says the Turkish Assembly has voted £21,000,000 for defence purposes.
