NAVAL VISITORS

AFTERNOON AT HOME HOSPITALITY RETURNED GUESTS OF FRENCH OFFICERS

A perfect autumn afternoon with bright sunshine and a faint breeze helped to make the At Home given on board the French sloop Rigault do Gcnouilly on Saturday afternoon by Captain A. le Plante a delightful occasion. During their brief stay in Auckland the officers have made many acquaintances, and there was an air of happy informality about the gathering that made it a very friendly affair. On arrival the guests, who included representative citizens, members of the three services, the Consular Corps and wardroom officers of H.M.S. Achilles, Leander and Philomel, were received by Captain le Plante, the Consul for France, Monsieur A. Pouquet, presenting them to him. The quarter-deck had been enclosed with awnings, and dancing took place later in the afternoon. Cocktails and other refreshments were served from a buffet at one side of the deck.
