PLAY AT AKAEANA THE QUALIFYING ROUND I. FAWCETT LEADS FIELD Tho qualifying round for the Coltman Cup, a major event on the club programme, was played by members of the Akarana Golf Club under ideal conditions. INTER-CLUB MATCHES REMUERA DEFEATS PUPUKE The second round of the inter-club golf competition was played during tho week-end. Kernuera beatiug Pupuke by eight games to two, two being all square. The match botwecn .North Shoro and Otaliuhu resulted in a tie of five games each and two all square. Following were the results, names of the first-men-tioned club taking precedence in each case:— Remuera v. Pupuke.—At Kernuera, singles! W. .Ralph beat H. Nicholas, 1 upj I). B. Mansergh beat R. SELF CUP FIRST ROUND PLAYED The first of three handicap medal rounds for the Self Cup was played by members of the Titirangi Golf Club on Saturday. The best cards returned were:— L. J. NORTHERN WAIKATO TITLE G. C. JOHNSTON SUCCESSFUL [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Sunday The Northern Waikato golf championship, conducted in conjunction with the Onewhero Golf Club's annual tournament, was won by G. C. Johnston (Pukekohe) with a gross score of 163 over 36 holes. J. Mitchell (Pukekohe) was runner-up with 165. Details of the various events are as follows: Northern Waikato Championship.—G. C. Johnston, 83, 80—103; J. Mitchell, 87, 78— 165. 36 Holes Medal Handicap.—Johnston. 77, 74—151; A. R. Cleary, 78, 76—154. 18 Holes Medal Handicap.—M. R. Grierson, 83, 6 —77; Johnston, 83, 6 —77. Grierson won on the count back. 18 Holes Bogey Match. —Johnston, 3 down; J. Niccol, 3 down. Johnston won on the count back. The best gross score over 18 holes was returned by j. Niccol with 78.
