OFFICIAL COMMENDATION [from our own correspondent} SAN FRANCISCO, April 22 A story.of heroism was unfolded here yesterday on receipt of word that the Navy had transmitted to Lieutenant George K. Huff, of San Francisco, attached to the cruiser Louisville, a letter of commendation for his part in saving lives in Sydney Harbour when a ferryboat capsized on February 13; :_v The tragedy, which claimed 19 lives, came as the ferry-boat Rodney '|passfed the Louisville and:, hundreds* of young girls aml others waved farewells to members of the crew who. had • been tlieir guests during a visit of the ship. Suddenly, as the throngs gathered at one rail with handkerchiefs fluttering, the ferry-boat turned over. „ / Lieutenant Huff was standing on the deck of the Louisville waving at friends. Sensing the peril even before, the ship capsized, he grabbed two ljfe preservers, shed his white tunic and cap, took a running 15-foot dive over* the rail, and was the first of 'the Louisville crew to reach the water.
