PAGEANT IN SYDNEY END OF CELEBRATIONS NEW ZEALAND CONGRATULATED PRESENTATION OF TROPHY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received May 9, 10.10 p.m.) SY.DNEY, May 9 Marking the end of the Australian sesqui-centenary celebrations, the trophies won by New Zealand and America during the recent pageant, "Australia's March to Nationhood," were to-day presented by Mr. J. Dunningham, Minister in charge of the festivities. Mr. W. Lee Martin, New Zealand Minister of Agriculture, who is on his way to the agricultural conference at Canberra, received New Zealand's trophy, a silver plinth surmounted by a map of Australia within a circle and bearing the celebrations emblem symbolising Australian native life. It will be recalled that the New Zealand floatgained first prize in the historical sec- ' tion of the pageant. Mr. Dunningham congratulated New Zealand upon gaining the coveted prize with an exhibit that ranked high in a memorable procession. He emphasised that between America, New Zealand and Australia there must be a permanent link for the control of the Pacific, and nothing must be allowed to destroy the existing cordial relations. Mr. Lee Martin acknowledged the sentiment and expressed the belief that the recent reunion had done more to cement the friendship of the two Dominions than anything that had happened hitherto. Mr. W. Taylor, New Zealand Trade Commissioner, and Mr. A. Cockayne, New Zealand Director of Agriculture, attended 'the ceremony. The New Zealand polo team is returning by the Wanganella, which left on Saturday for Wellington.
