CANTERBURY JUMPERS SCHOOLING AT RICCARTON GRAMPIAN MAKES FINE SHOWING [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] CITRISTCHURCH. Monday There was some interesting jumping at Riccarton this morning, mostly by novices. Nightbound was sent twice over three brush fences and shaped well. William Rufus was sent to jump four hurdles, but he hit the third hard and dislodged his rider at the fourth. Grampian gave an excellent display over six hurdles, going at a fast pace. Monastic jumped four hurdles and Surcoat, the half-brother to Shatter, followed him at an interval. This was Surcoat's first attempt over the bigger battens and he gave further promise of making good as a hurdler. Guilder, after jumping the pony hurdles, cleared four of the bigger obstacles in a smart manner. Drink Up is to»be tried as a jumper and he had his first lesson over the pony hurdles to-day. He baulked at one, but otherwise shaped satisfactorily. Punches town is due to make his reappearance in the schooling arena tomorrow morning and he will be accompanied in a round of the steeplechase fences by Flashlight. 1 THE MUSKET LINE ASCENDANCY IN AUSTRALIA Every long-distance race at the Australian Jockey Club's autumn Meeting was.
