TRIBAL MEMBERSHIP
NATIVE LAND COURT JUDGE CEREMONY AT NGARUAWAHIA [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday The honour of membership of the Waikato tribe was conferred on Judge F. O. V. Acheson, of the Native Land Court and the Native Appellate Court, at Ngaruawahia yesterday. The oldest living descendant of the Maori kings in the female line, Chieftainess Taingia, placed a korowai (ceremonial mat) over the shoulders of the judge and declared him a member of the tribe amid the acclamations of a large crowd of Maoris, Judge Acheson was previously admitted a member of the Arawa tribe, Rotorua, and the* Tuwharetoa tribe.
