UNITED STATES SENATE APPROVAL COST £289,000,000 MORE BATTLESHIPS BUILDING AUTHORISED By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received May 4, fi.s p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 4 The United States Senate approved President Roosevelt's £289,000,000 naval expansion programme, designed to give the United States the largest navy in its history. The bill authorises the construction of battleships with a total tonnage of 135,000. The programme merely authorises construction, and appropriations must be made later for the actual building of the ships.
