CALLIOPE CLUB

CLOW LEADS THE PACK RUN ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON Members of the Calliope Harriers Club held a run of four miles and ahalf on Saturday afternoon over difficult hillside country. R. Burgess and F. Hardman with tho paper kept \v<bll ahead of tho No. 1 pack. The d«pujtycaptain, Mr. L. J. Lanigan, had the largo No. 1 pack under control, including several new men. With D. Sharpe as leader, Short, Shaw and K. Orr, of tho Wanganui Club, formed a compact No. 2 pack. Short ran very easily, and D. Shaw struck a good harrier style. Under the leadership of the captain, N. It. Shorter, tho racing pack did some valuable fast work. Clow and Ambler were remarkably fit. McKinnon, who enjoyed the workout, is an ex-Wellington representative, and will be a valuable acquisition to the club. A. Clow led tho pack home by a quarter of a mile. ' BAPTIST CLUB The Bapflst Harrier Club hold its opening run of the season from the North Memorial Baptist Church on Saturday. Twenty members took part. The runners were divided into two packs. The fast pack, led by S. Edgar, ran a course of about six miles over rough country in the vicinity of Mount Wellington. Under the leadership of R. t'earce, tho intermediate pack covered about five miles of the same course, then doubled back to Ladles' Mile, finishing along Remuera Road to the church. No official runin was held, but the most, prominent runner# were:—Fast pack: W. Ferguson, L. Cornwell, G. Rosie; intermediate, H. Ferguson, R. Cornwell, P. Webster'. WESLEY CLUB The opening run of the Wesley Harrier Club was held on Saturday afternoon in favourable weather/There was an attendance of 36 runners, who were divided into four packs, namely, fast, medium, slow and colts. The course embraced the Three Kings and Mount Roskill districts and some new country in the vicinity of Hillsborough. One of the most encouraging features or the afternoon was the number of new members present. PRESBYTERIAN CLUB For the Presbyterian Bible Class Harrier Club's opening run there was a good muster of 30 runners. They were divided into three packs, and it was evident from the form displaved by the keener members over the four-mile course that the club enn look forward confidently to a very successful season. PAPATOETOE CLUB The Papatoetoe Harrier Club held its. opening run over four miles of the Wiri circuit. This marked the opening of the seventh cross-country season of the club. All of last year's runners turned out and were in fine form. The 220 yards run-in resultedD. Porter, 30yds, 3; C. Littler, 22yds, and HTomson. 20yds, dead heat, 2. Time, 25 1-os. LYNNDALE CLUB The Lvnndale Harrier Club opened its 3038 season on Saturday with a fine muster of 40 members. After the club president, Mr J. Dolan, had opened the season, Mrs. Dol'ari started a run ove- 4% miles Of the new members in the slow pack Blackwell, Gillev. Pearson and F. Taylor showed promise.'in the intermediate pack Stevens, v> hite and Davidson ran well. F. Perrett R. Crompton and A. Lydiard showed that they retained good form in the fast pack. UNIVERSITY CLUB A six-mile trial run from St. George's Hall, Epsoin, over road and coiintry, snowed an increase in the club's roll, w'th many promising new members. r*.. Stephenson, Coombes and Kofoed were prominent. The last-named leading home the fast pack. The other placed men were Barker and Green, with E. Stephenson in support. The slow pack, led by A. Ingham, did well for the beginning of the season, N. Stephenson, v M. Mackenzie, Coombes and Lang running up to form.
