MAORI LEADER'S DEATH
UNCLE OF KING KOROKI TANGI, AT NGARUAWAHIA fFROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Sunday The death has occurred at Ngarua< wahia of Tumati Mahuta Te Wherowhero, second son of a former Maori king, Mahuta Te Wherowhcro, and uncle of the present king, Koroki Mahuta Te Wherowhero, at the age of 48 years. Tumati took a prominent part in negotiating for compensation in connection, with the confiscation of native lands in the Waikato, and he wielded considerable influence in the affairs of the Waikato tribe. A large tangi, which will last until next Sunday, is m progress. The actingMinister of Native Lands, the Hon. P. LangstoneJ called at the pa yesterday find expressed his sympathy on behalf of the Government. Maoris from'ail parts of the Waikato and King Country are assembling at the pa to take part in the tangi.
