HOME FOR WOMEN
CONVALESCENT CASES SITE AT ROTORUA PLANNED t SUM OF £30,000 TO BE RAISED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] ROTORUA, Friday A project which has as its object the establishment of a convalescent home at Rotor 11 a for indigent women and children throughout the North Island was further advanced at a meeting last evening, when it was decided to launch a campaign to raise the sum of £30,000 by public subscription. A special committee was set up* for the purpose. The proposal is to provide - a suitable home for women and children, who are in need of nursing, and who are not in the fortunate position of boing able to go to one or other of the sanatoria in the Dominion.
It is proposed that the home should servo the whole of the North Island, and that it should be open to all women and children whose circumstances make it impossible for them to obtain the care and attention which their particular state of health makes necessary, and whose qualifications for treatment, are vouched for by a registered medical practitioner or approved by the board of governors. Already it has been established that there are very many Such cases throughout the Dominion, and the proposals which are brought forward are, it is understood, receiving the widespread support and assistance of medical practitioners and churches. The present plans are to provide accommodation for 50 patients and a qualified staff. The estimated cost of the buildings is £IO,OOO. It is considered that there is no better location for such a convalescent home than Rotorua, and immediate stops are to be taken to acquire a suitable site for the erection of the home. In the meantime the campaign for the raising of the necessary funds is to proceed. The following appointments have been made: —Patron, Lady Statham (Wellington); president, Mrs. A. E. ' Mansforcl (Mayoress of Palmerston North); provisional board of governors, Archdeacon 11. Hodgson (Rotorua), Rev. Charles Chandler (Cambridge), Archdeacon J. Young (Wanganui), Dr. J. G. S. Fisher (Auckland), Messrs. O. H. Coleman and G. H. French (Rotorua), H. W. Hevwood (Wellington), G. F. Maddison (Hastings), H. D. Caro (Hamilton), Mrs. A. E. Robertson (Rotorua); interim secretary and organiser, Mr. J. R. Overton.
