good financial position SCENIC DRIVE MAINTENANCE Great satisfaction with the financial position was expressed by the chairman of the Waitemata County Council, Mr. H. Paltridge, at a meeting of the council. At the annual balance date 86.7 per cent of the rates for the last financial year had been collected, and the county clerk, Mr. C. A. Cawkwell, was able to report a much-improved state of the finances.. "The position is infinitely better than for many years, said Mr. Paltridge. A letter was received from the district engineer, Public Works Department at Auckland asking whether the council would be willing to accept a quarter of the maintenance charges for the length of the Waitakere Scenic Drive outside the various reserves and the waterworks area. The request was declined.
