PRIVATE CAR AMBUSHED GANGSTERS IN PALESTINE RQUNDING-UP OPERATIONS (Received April 17, 7.30 p.m.) HAIFA, April 16 Three Jews were killed when a private car was ambushed and fired upon on the high road to Acre. British troops and airmen have opened operations, which are to extend over Easter, to round up gangsters south of Jenin. The first contact resulted in 20 Arabs, including a leader, being killed, and several others wounded. EASTER FESTIVAL SUBDUED ATMOSPHERE INSTANCES OF VIOLENCE Times Cable LONDON, April 15 The great festal season of Easter was subdued owing to the state of the country and the exclusion of the public from the Holy Sepulchre, which has been pronounced unsafe, says the Jerusalem correspondent of the Times. Jews visited the Wailing Wall and partook of the Passover under the shadow of Jewry's trials. Gangs murdered four Arabs in various places, and there were 14 cases of sniping. It is reported that an oil pipeline was punctured and the oil ignited. Seventy shots were fired at the Mayor's house, but there were no casualties.
