STREITO RUNS GOOD SECOND
Chief in importance among the Easter race meetings held in various parts of the Dominion on Saturday was that of the Auckland Racing Club at Ellerslie, where there was an attendance of 21,500, compared with 18,500 on the first day last year, which was postponed owing to inclement weather from Saturday to Monday. Speculation on the totalisator was spirited, and the investments amounted to £67,402, against £54,987 last year, an increase of £12,415. The Easter Handicap was won by the fourth fancy Francis Drake, who carried 51b. overweight and won by a neck from Stretto. who recorded a fine performance under the weight of 9.6. It was a fine finish, Llangollen being only a head away third, with Golden Sheila and Suleiman almost in line. Erination, who was an odds-on favourite, won the Brighton Hurdles for the second year in succession, scoring in very convincing fashion from Irish Comet and Kilberis.
