The host short gallop recorded on the Hastings racecourse for many seasons was that of Hunter's Evo to-day over half a mile. Carrying a light-weight boy, this juvenile covered that distance in 17}s, winch equalled the record track gallop jointly held by Statuette, The Hawk, Gay Ballerina and Pillow Fight. She leaves on Thursday for Tauhercnikau, where sho will be ridden by the apprentice jockey, B. Stowe. Jazz Boy and Hamarin, at level weights, comfortably ran five furlongs in 1.5. Jazz Boy is a doubtful starter over Easter. Bed Cockade, did well to head Wananga at the end of six furlongs in 1.17-}. Short Circuit, and later Red Witch and Hunting Mint, ran half a mile easily in SIJs. Hunting Mint may pay to follow at Tauherenikau if the track is without sting. Slippery's Engagements Over half a mile, Allinetic and Jacynth separately ran 525, and Slippery 51 .Js.' Brunhild, in her final trial before being taken to Christchurch, ran five furlongs with Thala in 1.3 J.

Tuesday Alma was given, steady work on the plough track at Wiugatui this morning •and as she pulled up clear in the wind, apparently she has not lost racing condition during her enforced spell. Exercise during the past two or three days and hill work has helped to clean her up; her damaged leg has fined down to normal and she is to race at Riccarton. She will, be accompanied by the Valkvrian gelding, Strip. The outside of the course at Wingatui was open for fast wprk this morn:ing. The goijjg. was hard and fast. Epic ibeat Slayer over five furlongs in 1.6 3-5. Poniard left seven furlongs behind in 1.35, the last six taking 1.21. Janet Gaynor and Roseman galloped six furlongs in 1.21, the last half-mile taking 56 1-5. The h.-vlf-brother, by British Empire, to Janet Gaynor anil a Straightcourse gelding sprinted half ii mile in 55 l-os. Hanlon and Night Wings ran in company over a mile, recording 1.49 l-ss, the last six furlongs in 1.22 a»4 half a mile along the back in 535.

On the plough Norseman cantered and exhibited a suspicion of soreness High Glee travelled a mile in 1.46, after beginning at. the nine-furlong post. Tuesday Good gallops by Lady Kyra, Clessamor and Majority were features of the work at New Plymouth this morning. All the fast work took place on the plough. Glen th awn ran five furlongs in 1.3 1-5. Shaugri-La heat Blab over half a mile in 51 3-ss. Shangri-La will make his next appearance at Waverley. Majority was going better than Ripple at the conclusion of half a mile in 50 l-ss. Advance Plane finished a round by running the last three furlongs in 395. Ned Cuttle had plenty in reserve when covering a mile in 1.50, the last five furlongs in 1.8. Clessamor showed attractive form when ho covered seven furlongs in 1.30 2-5, the last three being completed in 375. The best gallop oi th© morning was that of the Feilding Cup candidate, Lady Kyra, who beat lionny Glow by a length over a mile in 1.42 2-5. They ran the last five in 1.3 2-5, and both were doing their best. Tahurangi was not extended to run seven furlongs in 1.40 3-5. TE AROIIA EXERCISES GOLDEN SHEILA AND NOITARO

To Aroha candidates who are to leave for Ellerslio to-morrow, and several others, wore worked on the course proper tins morning. Gay .Rose, Golden Sheila and Noitaro should go to tiie post in first-class condition. Hessketoon, who has improved since racing at Tauranga, went a strong six furlongs, and Anylio went twice round. Noitaro and Golden Sheila separately got to the end of five furlongs in 1.3, and Hulette. who looks well, strode over two rounds. King Musk galloped four furlongs, finishing well. Gay Hose traversed two miles. Black Musk was given three-quarter pace work over six furlongs.
