WERAROA FARM BOY POLICE OVERTAKE FUGITIVE [by telegraph—PllESS association] BLENHEIM, Tuesday As a sequel to his escape at the Lyttelton wharf while being escorted to the Invercargill Borstal Institute by a'constable, a 17-vear-old youth, formerly at the Weraroa training farm, appeared in the Children's Court this morning charged with escaping from custody. He was remanded by a justice of the peace to appear before the magistrate to-morrow. It is alleged that the boy, after eluding his escort at Lyttelton, secured a motor-cycle and then a powerful motorcar, and drove northward. Near Blenheim yesterday it is alleged that he entered the homestead of Mr. R. Forsyth, o of lliverlands, and removed a gold watch and about £8 in cash. The car was trailed to Okaramio, on the road to Nelson, where the boy was arrested. I
,- t ANOTHER BOY AT LARGE ONE RETURNED TO WERAROA [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Tuesday Two boys who escaped from the Weraroa training farm on April 4 were seen on the wharf at Wellington on Friday evening shortly before the departure of the ferry steamer. A detective, recognising one, went up to him and while they were talking the other lad disappeared. He is still at liberty. The boy who was apprehended appeared before Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S,M., in the Children's Court, when he pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking and entering a house at Kilbirnie on Friday and stealing £4 los in money and clothing of a total value of £lO. Ho also admitted two other charges of theft. The Magistrate: I'll send you back. The manager reports favourably on you. I want you to understand that if you give any mora trouble there will be onlv one thing to do—send you to Borstal. You know that just as well as I do. If you go back and behave, good. If you don't, tou know what is cominu to you. We will leave it at that.
