NURSING SERVICE

PLUNKET COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES AT NORTHCOTE INCREASED RESPONSIBILITIES The increased responsibilities undertaken for the bettor functioning of Plunket work at Northcotc were referred to in the annual report of the Nprthcote Plunket Committee.

The report stated that the cost of the nurse's visit to the district for one day per week had been paid since September 1. The nurse had thus been ablo to devote more time to individual cases. From this date also Plunket work had been undertaken independently by a separate nurse and committee at Birkenhead, and it was no longer necessary for the mothers in that district to visit Northcote. Report for Year The report of the nurse Northcote, Miss Jessie Bursell, showed that during the year 1258 visits to the local rooms were made by 560 adults, 531 babies, and 167 older children. There

were 35 new cases. In addition the nurse had made 119 visits to homes at Northcote since September 14 last. One premature baby was admitted to the Karitane Hospital; one mother and baby were admitted to the Karitane mothercraft cottage, and one baby was admitted to Nurse Harrison's Home at Northcote.

Appreciation was expressed of the capable service as Plunket Nurse under the Northcote Committee, given by Miss Joan Carmichael, who was withdrawn from the North Shore by headquarters under the necessary readjustment of the nursing staff.

It was stated that a donation of five guineas had been made to the Karitane Hospital and two guineas toward the new furnishings of the Mothercraft Cottage. Transport Service The report added that the voluntary transport service had greatly facilitated the work of the nurse. Since the separation of Birkenhead, the conveners had been Miss Myrtle I.<epper and Mrs. A. Sterling, and thanks were recorded to them and their co-drivers.

It was stated that the membership of the Trnby King Junior League was 54.

Warm appreciation of the work of the president, Mrs. A. Campbell, for the society was expressed in the report.
