WATER MAIN ENDANGERED OPOTIKI PROBLEM DISCUSSED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT J OrOTIKI, Satnrday The erosion on the Otara River, below the mouth of the Tutaetoko Stream, which was stated to be endangering the water main, was the subject of a letter from the Opotiki Borough Council received at the monthly meeting of the Opotiki County Council. The letter states that the Borough Council was applying to the Government for assistance in putting a cut through to divert the river, and asked the County Council to share half the cost. Mr. W. Upton, county engineer, said he did not think the scheme would be a success. The cotincil decided that protection work would be better, and the engineer was asked to make a report.
