BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
INCREASE IN SUBSIDY HIGHWAYS BOARD DECISION [BY TELKGRArH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Saturday Advice has been received by the Whangarei County Council from the Main Highways Board that the board has decided to increase the subsidy on the cost of the erection or replacement of bridges on highways to a £3 for £1 basis, instead of the previous £2 for £1 basis. The increase will take effect as from April 1 and Mill apply to bridges in the course of construction as well as works undertaken after that date.
This decision of the board will be of considerable assistance to counties in the north as there are a large number of wooden bridges in urgent need of replacement. .Representations have been made by the councils concerned for an increase of subsidy from the board.
