SUNNY WEEK-END

COOLER CONDITIONS TOUCH OF AUTUMN WIDE TEMPERATURE RANGE After a period ot sultry weather, in which the variations of temperature were comparatively slight, Auckland experienced over the week-end cooler and more pleasant conditions. Over Saturday night there was a distinct touch of autumn in the air, the temperature dropping to 59 degrees. Though there was a blue sky yesterday, it took some time before the atmosphere warmed up. Thereafter the day left nothing to be desired, and with a full in the afternoon the beaches were well patronised, bathing proving popular. Between the overnight minimum temperature and the maximum yesterday there was a difference of 16 degrees, whereas on some days recently the variation has been only about seven and eight degrees. Motor traffic was heavy on many of the roads yesterday and on some unpleasantly so for drivers. So great was the congestion in the afternoon on the roads leading to Mangore—a flying display and news that the clubhouse had been destroyed by fire combining to attract motorists—that traffic officers were compelled to turn back or divert much traffic.
