PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE

MEETING AT NORTHCOTE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The first meeting of the Northcote Women's Progressive League since the annual meeting, held in the parish hall, was largely attended. The president, Mrs. W. E. Carter, presided. A donation of one guinea was made to the Miss Nance Pattrick Memorial fund. It was stated that the memorial to the late director of Plunket nursing was to take the form of a scholarship to nurses wishing to advance their training in Plunket work. Fortv-four members responded to the call of Mrs. A. Campbell, convenor of the Poppy Day collection, for volunteers to sell "poppies on April 22. Mrs. F. C. Swinbank reviewed current topics discussed by the National Council of Women, including the McMillan report and the Government housing scheme. Mr F. A. Garry, principal of the Northcote District High School, was thanked for an address on tho "Socialised Aspect of the Modern School." Solos were given by Mrs. I. McKnigbt and elocutionary items by Miss Betty Birch.
