Restriction on Free Performances

ENTERTAINERS* ASSOCIATION With the object of protecting musicians and other professional entertainers in Auckland, a. body to be known as the Auckland Entertainers' Association has been formed and at a representative meeting the constitution which had been drawn up was approved and the officers elected. Members of the association, who in all cases are experienced entertainers, may not perform at public functions or at gatherings of clubs or other bodies having a subscribing membership, without remuneration for their professional services. Exceptions, such as charity concerts or entertainments organised for the inmates of hospitals and similar institutions, are provided for in the constitution.

In organising the association it was felt that, once its claims are recognised, the association will be a factor in ensuring a higher standard of entertainment in the city, while aspiring performers will be given a goal for which to strive.

The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. Colin Muston; vice-presi-dent, Mr. Denis Johns; secretary and treasurer, Miss Isobel Langlands; committee, Mrs. Phyllis Bloy, Miss Marjorie Tiarks, Messrs. Alan McElwain, Dan Flood, Bobert Harris, Frank Poore.
