RAILWAY WORKSHOPS ANNUAL MATCH COMMENCED AUCKLAND PLAYS WELLINGTON HOME TEAM'S ADVANTAGE The annual match between tho Auckland and Wellington Railway Workshops cricket teams was commenced at Eden .Park yesterday afternoon. In addition to the usual trophy, tho Myers Cup, presented in 1912 by Sir Arthur Myers, the L. T. Cobcroft Memorial Shield is also at stake.

Wellington batted first on a fast wicket and, although the conditions were strange, a good start was made, the first wicket falling at (58. The opening batsmen, Ross and Jones, played attractively, exploiting shots on either side of tho wicket to advantage. Tho later batsmen made a consistent procession to and from tho wicket, Finlayson turning the ball both ways, being mainly responsible for tho low total of 99 runs. His seven wickets for 41 runs were obtained in 14 overs* which included three maidens.

Cochrane and Hood made a fine stand for Auckland and with tho score ten short of Wellington's total, and with tho loss of three wickets, an appeal against the light was upheld. Piny will bo continued at 10 o'clock this morning. Scores: — WELLINGTON.—First Innings B. R. Ross, c Clark, b Finlayson .. 35 J. Jones, b Finlayson 34 R. J. Kemp, b Cleverley .. .. 0 A.
