LIFTING A TAPU
SECRET MAORI CEREMONY CARROLL MEMORIAL HOUSE [by TFLEGBAPH —OWN correspondent! HASTIXGB, Tuesday The Sir James, Carroll Memorial House and surrounding marae, near Wairoa, have been closed to the public until after April 12, when a ceremony will be performed by native priests to lift the tapu. The marae includes a burial ground and the old site of the Takitimu meeting house. The lifting of the tapu is a secret ceremony and will begin at midnight on April 11.
