Photographs, reproduced on four pages give a vivid impression of the havoc wrought to the engine ,and carriages. Further pictures in the current issue include snapshots' of players and spectators at the annual Savile Cup polo tournament held last week at the Claudelands showgrounds, scenes at the departure from Blenheim of FlyingOfficer A. E. Clouston on his return flight to England and a series of attractive figure studies entered in the recent Wkekta' Nkws photographic competition.

"The recommendation sent out to unions by the New Zealand Rugby Council that international rules should bo played this seasoii lias been well received," writes Mr. Mark Nicholls, Rugby correspondent to Tick AYkkkly NkwK in a special article published in 'the sporting section. "It now appears that the amended rules have left the stage, I hope fop ever. From now on, the team that wins the ball from the scrums, line-outs and rucks will be able to play the type of game to bring it to victory." Mr. Nicholls also gives an interesting analysis of inside back tactics and suggests that there is scope for more variation in play from the scrum than is possible under the South Africans' methods. The prospects of horses entered in next Saturday's race meetings at Matamata, Stratford and Hastings and trotting meetings at Awapuni and Greyinouth are reviewed in the racing pages.
