ATHLETICS COACH
OFFICIAL IN WELLINGTON RETURN TO UNITED STATES Unless there is some new development in the interval, the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre's young American professional coach. Mr. A. L. Fitch, will be returning to the United States next month. His agreement with the centre provides for his return to America by May 10, and he has tentatively booked to leave Auckland by the Niagara on April 19. Officials of the Wellington Centre hope that something can he done to enable Mr. Fitch's services to be retained in New Zealand and for the scope of his work to be extended. For the past six weeks the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, has been visiting Australia, and no newdevelopments have fce«n announced in connection with the National Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation. At the time of his visit to the Dominion it was felt that the Government had in mind the famous New Zealand athlete, J. E. Lovelock, for an important port in its physical welfare and recreation scheme, but Lovelock's one ambition then was to complete hist medical studies. He returned to England from New Zealand, and since then there has been no announcement of the possibility of his return to this country. In these circumstances, the suggestion has been made that Mr. Fitch would be a useful man to have in association with the National Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation. This organisation is not yet in working order, and there has been no announcement as to any possible appointments.
