SCHOOL BATHS
ATTITUDE OF MINISTER STATE AND LOCAL EFFORTS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday The construction of swimming baths at the Fairfield School was a suggestion advanced to the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, by a deputation representing the committee of tho school to-day. The Minister advised the committee to submit an official application to tho department. Mr. R. R. Paterson said the Fairfield School was three miles from the Hamilton Municipal Baths and it was a major task transporting over 200 children to and from their swimming lessons. "I am convinced that an effort should bo made to have swimming baths in every part of tho Dominion," Mr. Fraser said. "The only way to do this is to have Government efTort with local co-operation. School baths should bo used by adults as well as by children, and the schools should be tho centres of social activities not only of tho children but also of the adolescents of each district." Mr. Fraser added that nothing could be decided at the present stage in respect to swimirling baths at Fairfield. He advised the deputation to compile details and submit an official application for assistance.
