PEDESTRIANS KILLED
ANALYSIS OF ACCIDENTS 50 IN NINE MONTHS [BV TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] BLENHEIM, Friday An investigation into the 50 fatal accidents to pedestrians that occurred between April 1 and December 31 last year was the subject of a statement issued to-night by the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple. He said it was the most comprehensive investigation of its kind over carried out in New Zealand. "Pedestrians over 40 will have to be more than usually careful if the figures are any guide," Mr. Semple said. "Apart from Christmas and New Year's Eve, the winter months are easily the most dangerous for the pedestrian. "The stark fact standing out from thfe statistics is the tragic death rate of elderly men and women. To all those who aro getting on in years and to motor drivers and motor-cyclists I would address an appeal to be particularly careful, especially at night when it ia wet."
