MAORIS GIVEN LIQUOR
DISTURBANCE AT DANCE SEVEN MEN BEFORE COURT [by telegraph—OWN* correspondent] TAUPO, Friday Following a disturbance at a dance at Oruanui, when a European, woman was assaulted by a Maori, two men, Alfred H. Gregory and Sydney Smith, both pleaded guilty before Mr. J. Miller, S.M.. to-day to supplying liquor to Maoris olf licensed premises. Five Maori men, who were charged with aiding and abetting in the offence, also pleaded guilty. Gregory was fined £6 and Smith £3 10s, and each Maori £2 15s. The magistrate severely criticised the actions of Gregory and Smith, who, lie said, were otherwise respectable citizens.
