CHAMBER OF COMMERCE COUNCIL ELECTION SUGGESTED [by telegraph—owx correspondent] THAMES, Tuesday The question of covering the western side channel in Pollen Street was discussed by the Thames Chamber of Commerce this morning when a? letter was received from the town clerk stating th«t only some of the owners of frontages in the central block were agreeable to paying their share of the cost, lhe Post and Telegraph Department had generously agreed to pay the full cost of its frontage. The president and Mr. F, S. Miller weio deputed to interview the borough commissioner to find the cost of covering; the channelling in four blocks in Pollen Street so that the matter can be submitted to business houses. A motion was passed that a letter be sent to Mr. J. Thorn, M.P., asking him to approach the Minister of ln<ternal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, regarding what action the Government was likely to take in allowing an election for Mayor and councillors this year. The promotion of a farmers' week on the lines of the successful one last year was discussed and a committee was appointed to approach tho Jocal branch of tho Farmers' Union and see what support could bo obtained.
