SUBWAY SCHEME

FRANKTON STATION PROPOSAL BY MINISTER ESTIMATED COST OF £13,000 [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday Estimated to cost £13.000, a scheme for the construction of a subway from High Street to the Frank.con railway station was submitted by 'the Minister of Railways, the Hon. I). G. Sullivan, at Frankton recently to a combined deputation from the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, the Hamilton Borough Council and other local bodies. The Railways Department considers that the proposed undertaking will eliminate the present difficulties in gaining access to the station. The chairman of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, i\lr. H. D. Caro, said last night that the deputation did not welcome the scheme, but rather pressed for tho erection of a new station. He thought that the acceptance of a subway scheme would mean that a new station would be a more distant dream than ever. A resolution to be forwarded to the Minister was carried as follows: — "That, with the approach of winter, the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce feels that a shelter should bo erected 011 the Raglan side of the overhead bridge for receiving luggage to be carried to the platform, and that access through the Raglan gate for passengers, as promised by the Minister, should bo provided."
