AUSTRIANJARTIES ANTI-NAZI_SLOGAN SALZBURG PABADE INDEPENDENCE FIGHT UNREST IN COUNTRY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received February 27. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 26 The Vienna correspondent of the Daily Telegraph states that the slogan used in a torchlight procession involving 35,000 persons in one of the greatest demonstrations in the history of Salzburg was : "Swear with us that Austria shall live for ever." The demonstrators marched to the very frontiers of Germany to show their loyalty to Austrian independence. The procession completely eclipsed that of 15,000 Nazis last Tuesday. The success of the Salzburg procession is mainly attributable to the enthusiasm created by Dr. Schusqhnigg's speech in Parliament on Thursday, but also to the decrease in Nazi adherents owing to the knowledge of Germany's economic plight. Tens of thousands of hands were uplifted in fealty to Austria in response to the slogan. The Nazis did not dare disturb the procession. Another message from Vienna states that the Nazi movement in Styria and Carinthia threatens to develop into a landslide. The swastika has been hoisted on the Graz City Hall and Nazi enthusiasm is sweeping through Upper Austria. The Graz University has been closed owing to Nazi students' demonstrations.

FATHERLAND FRONT PROVINCIAL LEADERS MERGER WITH GOVERNORS GOVERNMENT'S DECISION (Received February 27. 6.30 p.m.) VIENNA, Feb. 29 The Government announces that the offices of the provincial leader of the Fatherland Front and the provincial governor have been united in Styria, Salzburg, tho Tyrol, Lower Austria and Voralbcrg. The Nazis regard this as a strengthening of the Fatherland Front, although Herr Hugo Jury, notable as the former Nazi commander of the Storm Troops, has been appointed Dr. luquart's deputy as controller of the political department of the organisation, which has been established in order to conciliate the Nazis and incorporate them in the Fatherland Front. RELATIONS WITH ITALY CHANCELLOR'S REASSURANCE LONDON, Fob. 25 A fuller report of Dr. Schuschnigg's speech regarding the Berchtesgaden conversations with Herr Hitler shows that he denied rumours of a change in the relations between Italy and Austria. "Signor Mussolini has always shown complete understanding and sympathy with Austria, and has always meticulously refrained from any interference in Austria's domestic affairs," he said.
