LARGE MOTOR TANKER
VESSEL OVER 11,000 TONS THE CHINA FROM BAHREIN \ One of the largest ships of her type. to visit Auckland, the motor-tanker China, of 11,443 tons gross, is expected here from Bahrein Island, in the Persian Gulf, on March 11. Probably the biggest tanker Auckland has seen is tha > Australia, of 11,628 tons, which was built in 1928, but numbers of new tankers arriving recently have approached that figure. Among these is the British motortanker Edward F. Johnson, expected on another voyage front San Francisco tomorrow. This ship, of 10.630 tons, hits been a fairly regular visitor here since her arrival last September on her maiden voyage. The China is one of the many big tankers launched last year. She was built at the Krupp yards at Kiel for \ the Standard Oil Company of California and she has bfen registered under the flag of Panama. New Zealand is being well served by large ships of her type which bear comparison with any in the world. The biggest tanker afloat is the Emile Miguet, of the Compagnie Navale de Petiole, and her gross tonnage is 15,436. An average voyage is being made by, the China from Bahrein, which she left on February 6. She will complete discharging motor spirit at Wellington! Lyttelton and Dunedra.
