H After being in operation for about six years and costing the country nearly £11.000.000, the Union's export subsidy system has come to an end. The liability of the Government for payments officially ended 011 November 30 last, but the Subsidy Office in Pretoria will be kept open until June of this year to meet outstanding claims. About £17,000 was paid out last November in subsidies, compared with £25.000 the month before. The subsidy system was introduced by the Government of 1931 after Britain's departure ' from the gold standard.
