FREE MEDICAL PLAN
TASMANI AN COUNTRY AREAS The Tasmanian Government is in the process of establishing its plan for free medical services for remote country districts. The scheme provides for the stationing of 10 doctorg throughout the State to serve the residents of stated areas without fee. Medicine prescribed for patients will be available at a flat rate of 2s a bottle irrespective of its cost. A number of municipalities have entered into agreements with the Government, by which the State agrees to take over the health services formerly undertaken by the councils, and to provide a medical man in their districts, who will be paid by the State. The Government is awaiting the completion of agreements with other councils before the scheme can be put into operation.
