NEW POLICE STATION
NEWMARKET BUILDING EXCELLENT progress made COMPLETION NEXT MONTH Excellent progress is being made with the building of the now police station at tho corner of Remuera and Middleton Roads, Newmarket. The structure, which will replace tho present one situated on the same property, but facing Remuera Road, •was commenced during December. It is expected that it will be completed by the end of March. The new station, which is being built to meet the rapidly-growing needs of the expanding Newmarket district, will have a frontage of 7oft. to tho Remuera Road and 34ft. to Middleton Road. It will be thoroughly modern in all aspects and will provide ample accommodation for tho largely-increased staff which lias become necessary during recent years. The main entrance will be riear the corner of Remuera Road, with massive steps, and on either side of the bronze-sheeted door will bo decorative lighting fixtures in bronze. The new building is to be set back Bft. from tho Remuera Road alignment. The present station is a small brick building on the extreme southern end of the Remuera Road frontage and has long been too small for the growing needs of the district. It will be eventually altered to conform to tho stylo of the new station and converted into a double garage. Portion of the Middleton Road frontage is occupied by the sergeant's residence and this will not be interfered with.
