STOCK SALES

WESTFIELD QUOTATIONS GOOD DEMAND FOR STORES FIRMING IN PRICES Graziers displayed a keen demand for store cattle at the Westfield stock sale yesterday, when the values for several lines showed an appreciation over recent firm rates. The prolific growth of pasturage as the result of the recent heavy rains has caused stock raisers to buy in fairly heavily, and under the competition the prices were good for vendors. The rise in fat stock values the previous day also had a bearing on the activity displayed. In the dairy section the demand was substantial and well maintained. Good quality cows and heifers in milk and very close to profit commanded satisfactory prices, the best being £lO 10s for Jersey cows in milk. Heifers of the same breed and Jersey-Shorthorn-cross cattle sold up to £9 15s. The general average of values was a shade higher than in recent weeks. The quotations were: — Store Cattle. —Young' cows, good condition, to £7; less condition, to £4 15s; thers, to £2f 17s (id; boner and aged cows, to £4 1 ."is; potter bulls, medium weights, to £7 12s Gd; lighter weights, to £5 12s tfd; meaty, billable cows, to £G 15s; yearling Jersey heifers, good quality, to £-1 10s; others, to £2 10s; breeding bulls, to £O.

PUKEKOHE MARKET [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Thursday The torrential rain which fell during the morning, causing minor flooding and slips which blocked roads, clipped the yarding at the weekly stock sale at Pukekohe to-day, conducted by Alfred Buckland and Sons. Limited. The blocking of the western bus route from Auckland also led to some buyers being about two hours late in arriving, and the demand in the pig section was affected as a result.
