CRIPPLED GIRLS' WORK SCHOOL IN ENGLAND GOOD POSITIONS OBTAINED Keenly interested in public welfare work and the activities of the Women's Institute, Mrs. Herbert Wade, J.P., arrived by the Rangitiki on Saturday, for a tour of about a month through the Dominion. The beautiful weaving and finely executed hand-made tapestry done at the Crippled Girls' Weaving School at Stratford-on-Avon, in which she Mas much interested, wero spoken of by Mrs. Wade, who said it was one of the> few schools which did tho handmade tapestry work. As a result of the instruction received at tho school a great many of the girls were able to take good posts throughout the country as hand weavers. Certificated instructors were doing wonderful teaching work at the Girls' Reformatory School, in whose work Mrs. Wade also expressed her interest. Any particular bent shown by the girls was encouraged and special tuition given. Classes in cookery, laundry, sewing atad dressmaking, general housework, and physical culture, which included games, were held, and good situations were taken by most of the girls on leaving. A tremendous amount of progress was being made in this work, said Mrs. Wade.. Assistance in the work of mental homes is also among the activities of Mrs. Wade, who is a magistrate for County Warwick. Her home is at Honiley Hall, Warwickshire.' Mrs. Wade is anxious to have opportunities to see the work of the Women's Instituto in the Dominion, particularly that of the Maori Institutes. Interest in the progress of the movement in New Zealand was keen, she said, and she hoped to be ablo to take information about the work back to the institutes with which she is connected in England.
