HASTINGS SPORTSMAN .. , { TWO PONIES COLLIDE PLAfYER THROWN HEAVILY DEATH LATER IN HOSPITAL [by telegbaph—OWN correspondent] HASTINGS, Monday Fatal injuries were suffered by a wellknown polo player when he was thrown from his pony during a match at the Hastings polo grounds on Saturday. The victim was:— Mr, Donald James Macfarlane, aged 21, only son of Mr. J. A. Macfarlane, Glen Aros station, Hastings. Mr. Macfarlane was thrown from his pony when it came into collision with another. Ho received head and spine injuries and died in hospital yesterday afternoon without regaining consciousness. The game was a trial match between A and B teams of the club for the selection of a team to take part in a tournament.

Mr. Macfarlane was educated at Wanganui College and since leaving there he had been associated with his father at Glen Aros station. He was well known throughout the district as a keen all-round sportsman. He took a prominent part in hunt meetings and polo. He was the holder of a gentleman rider's licence.
