MEN ALL EEMANDED SCENE AT WATCH-HOUSE BAIL GRANTED BY JUSTICE The 28 men arrested by detectives who raided premises in Queen's Arcade last night later appeared before Mr. G. E. Magee, J.P., at the watchhouse. They were charged with breaches of the Gaming Act. and all were remanded on bail until Monday. One man was charged with being the keeper of a common gaming-house,- and another with assisting, the remaining 26 facing charges of being found on the premises. James Joyce, aged 43, labourer, was charged with keeping . premises at the Queen's Club, Queen's Arcade, as a common gaming-house, and Walter Victor Roy Smith, aged 26, clerk, was charged with assisting. Both were granted bail of £SO. The following were charged with being found on the premises:—Charles Vin cent Duffey, Victor Ronald McClaughen, George Charles Adams, Sylvester Pickett, Gordon Alexander Archer, Stanley Roy, Henry Harding, Jlenry Buckley, Victor Noble, Colin William Haydon, Thomas Cuthbert Brownlie, Jack August, Walter Carrick, Joseph Lee, Frank Dicker Russell, George McDonald, Frederick Dawson, James Notter Groves, Ronald Cameron, Edward William Hall, Henry Simons, Jack Reseter, Henry William Thomas Jones, Samuel Henderson, James George Adams and John Coffey. Bail was fixed at sums ranging from £3 to £5 each.
The men arrested were assembled in the muster-hall, and in turn were interviewed by detectives, who took their names. This was completed at 11.30 p.m., and the Court opened a few minutes later. Proceedings were completed by 12.30 o'clock this morning.
