THE FARMERS' BURDEN

Sir,—ln reply to "Farmer Bill" I would Bay he is using the usual farmer's idea of figuring. Taking the percentages referred to in his letter as being somewhere near correct, I figure that the farmer, with a gross return of £IOOO, is approximately £1 5s per week better off this year than last. The increase of 15 per cent on the gross return is £l5O. Expenses increase £B7, leaving £63 over. I think the farmers have little to growl about and there are very few who are not driving quite a decent car.:l am a farmer and perfectly satisfied with the deal given by the present Government. Any farmer who tells the truth must say he is better off now than he has ever been. Farmer Brown.
