NO GENERAL DEMAND MANUFACTURERS BUSIER Both the footwear and clothing manufacturing industries are busier then thoy were, an improved demand for labour being reported by the Auckland Placement Service. In the building trade there is an unsatisfied demand for capabte carpentera and bricklayers. There is also r. keen inquiry for licensed and unlicensed plumbers, and capable men are stated to have been absorbed. On the other hnnd there is no demand for painters or for plasterers trained in "solid" work

The general engineering group is extremely quiet, but a large amount of electrical wire work appears- to bo offering, oapable men having little difficulty in getting employment. Firstclass motor mechanics are still beinj? sought after.

In the clerical group the situation is becoming worse, the service now having 200 clerical workers on its books. In the past week it succeeded in placing two clerks only. The service made 155 placements in general private employment this week, of which oil are classed as casual, 40 as temporary and 63 as permanent. Twenty-one of these placements represented youths. Recent rains have caused many men t,o be given casual or temporary gardening work. The service also sent 49 men this week to Government work mid 26 men to local bodice under the No. 1U subsidy scheme.

FORTY MEN FOUND WORK

[from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday Private work was found for 40 men by the Hamilton placement office this week, .32 of the positions being permanent, two temporary, and six casual. One female worker was found a position, while 48 men were placed on State enterprises. Building has increased throughout Hamilton and # the district, and there is a keen demand for carpenters and other building tradesmen. Motor mechanics, especially those in the A grade, are also sought after, and difficulty is being experienced in finding qualified men to fill the manv vacancies ottering. '
