Opera Star's Kindly Action
INSTRUCTION FOR SINGERS Gladys Swarthout has announced that her negotiations for the purchase of Villa Le Campora in Florence, Italy, aro nearing completion and that she expects to be able to open tlio villa shortly after the New Year as a school where poor but talented young American singers will be given lodging and instructions. Miss Swarthout's decision to engage in this charitablp venture was made during the difficult days when she was struggling for recognition as a singer. After gaining stardom in the Metropolitan Opera and in films, she began a search of Europe for a place suitable as a school for young American singers. The negotiations for purchase of Villa Le Campora, begun two years ago, will probably have been completed before Christmas and the first American students to be sent abroad by Miss Swarthout will leave shortly after the first of the year.
