Stokowski and Mickey Mouse in Film
" SORCERER'S APPRENTICE " If you read that Leopold Stokowski and Mickey Mouse are to be co-starred in "100 Men and a Mouse," do not dismiss it as a joke. The facts are that Walt Disney asked the famous conductor to do the musical scoring and direction for a Mickey Mouse musical. Stokowski was so flattered he offered to do the work for nothing. And all concerned were so happy that they decided somehow to work Stokowski himself into the short. This -idea is not so far-fetched as it sounds. Stokowski's appearance in "100 Men and a Girl" proves him to have a most distinctive screen personality, charming and sensitive. Mickey himself has long been an ardent and accomplished musician. His work as conductor of "The Band Concert" and the playing of Stokowski's orchestra in "10U Men and a Girl'' are probably the two finest examples of musical treatment ever achieved on the screen. So it seems an excellent idea to bring the two maestros together. Strictly speaking, their creation will not be called "100 Men and a Mouse." Its title is "Sorcerer's Apprentice." Presumably, it will be based on the well-known composition of Dukas "L'Apprentis Sorcier."
