Races For Cars
PROGRAMME ARRANGED Plans for the big race meeting to be held at Muriwai next month wore advanced a further stage at a meeting, of the New Zealand Motor Racing Drivers' Association this week, when it was decided to guarantee prize money totalling £75 out of funds._ If further money is available the prizes are to be increased. The date of the meeting was fixed for February 26 and it was announced that the Light Car Cup and the Butcher Cup had been made available through the courtesy of the Automobile Association (Auckland). The Light Car Cup is for cars of under 1500 c.c. and the Butcher Cup will be competed for by stock saloon models. An open event for the Miller-Michelin championship and cup also will ho decided, and there will be two races for motor-cycles, in addition to a handicap event for open stock cars and sport models, and a handicap race for stock cars of 10 horse-power and under. Speed trials which wore to have been held at Henning's Speedway, Mangere, on February 6 have been postponed, and will probnblv be bold sometime in March, after the Muriwai race meeting. It was also decided to arrange _ a social gathering in honour of the visiting American and Australian midget car drivers, and a smoke concert will be held on February 10. A "mystorv" run will oe held on February 20. Cars will assemble in the morning for a day's outing and will leave for an unknown destination. A gymkhana will be bold during the day.
