Tailored Beach Wear Still Has Its Following
LONDON. Dec. 21 so many dressmaker effects in play clothes, one must not forget tliat there are many women who still prefer, the masculine cut applied to their shorts and trousers. And there is much to be said for the neater outline of this type of clothes, especially for motoring in the wilds or camping out. when one needs to look fresh with a small outfit. . Manv slacks costumes are made in thin, pin-striped woollen in good colourings, such as dusty pink with white
stripes, duck-egg blue and cocoa brown with white and cream stripes. Other> m sailcloth, linen, pique, etc., are all cut with attention to the tr.m waislline, either shaped above the ivaist or very neatly belted and with "turn-up' hems. A jacket to match, a jersev that nt.s closely, or a coloured shirt-waist is the usual finish to slacks. Top coats goner ally provide the contrast in line, and "boxy" coats make trim tops for tailored slacks. These coats vary in length, from those which just reach the hips to others just above the knee, and again there is the three-quarter coat hanging straight and loose below the knees. Contrast is also supplied by the choice of material or colour. The top coat is often made of blazer-striped fabric for wear over white slacks and trousers, or a white or plain coloured fabric is used over plaid, checked or striped slacks, with a dark blouse or sweater to pick up the colourings. Usually the shoulders of these boxy coats are squared up, even when cut on raglan lines, and this applies to the short, square linen coats that are part of a suit, and have short sleeves puffed or gored, to extend the shoulders. These straight tailored beach or travel clothes form a complete contrast to the masses of dressmaker swim suits and play-clothes which exploit all the patterned fabrics in draped and Honing lines and brilliant colourings. It is usually, however, a question of suiting your clothes to the occasion and to your own particular type. Some women who look exceedingly smart and well-groomed in plain tailored clothes find the dressy effects ruin their distinction, being nnsnited to their type and therefore giving an uninteresting appearance.
Very now are flannel slacks cut lort, just covering the knees and finking with a turn-up hem, exactly likp long masculine garment.
