INSTITUTE AFFAIRS
Swanson. —A very enjoyable garden party was held in the grounds of Air. and Mrs. Freeman's residence. The opening ceremony was performed by Mrs. Colwill and the visitors and members were received by Mrs. Freeman, assisted by Airs. Winter, vicepresident of the institute. Visitors were present from several institutes. Enjoyable music was played by a band and several stalls did good business. Tea was in the chargo of Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Edlin. Assisting with stalls, competitions and games,, etc., were: —Mrs. Francis, Mrs. Strahan, Airs, P. Hintze, MifiS M. Kuipe, Mrs. Knipe, Mrs. Laurie, Mrs. Cooke, Mrs. Pender, Mr. Laurie.
Hangatiki.—The institute's annual garden party was held at the homestead of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Board, when there was a large gathering of members and visiting friends from other districts. Mrs. Pettigrew, assisted by Mrs. Board, received the guests. A bring and buy stall did good business, the proceeds being devoted to the funds of the institute. Competition games and a treasure hunt were enjoyed and Mrs. S. Board interested the gathering with a demonstration of pewter work. The committee served afternoon tea in the treeshaded grounds, after which the president, Mrs. Pettigrew, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Board for their hospitality.
