MAN'S WAGES STOLEN
f COLLECTED BY FRIEND LABOURER GIVEN PROBATION The theft of an indisposed workmate's wages amounting to £9 6s was admitted by Thomas Lineen, labourer, aged 37, when lie was charged with tha offence in the Police Court j'esterdaj, before Mr. C. It. Orr Walker, S.M. In a statement to the police accused said ho had been working with a friend named Donald Larkins at AVestfield, and on January 19 was given a note by the latter authorising him to collect his friend's wages. He also collected his own, amounting to £lu Is 4a, and when he returned to town in tne evening he visited two hotels. "I got drunk, and I cannot remember how the money was spent," accused added. "J do not think it was all spent in the hotels." . , Accused had since lost his work, it was stated, and had paid complainan £l. He was prepared to make restitution. There were no previous convictions against hini. Accused was admitted to probation for a year, conditions being that he abstained from taking liquor and made restitution amounting to £8 6s.
