£6,000,000 ORDER
NEW UNDERGROUND TRAINS • BUSY LONDON TRAFFIC (Received January 19, 6.5 p.m.) British Wireless RUGBY, Jan. 18 The London Passenger Transport Board has ordered 2050 new coaches for Underground trains at a cost of about £6,000,000. Thr- contracts stipulate that 500 coaches shall be delivered this year. The driving equipment of the new trains for the first time will, be underneath the floor boards, and the entire train will be available for passengers. The trains will accelerate to the rate of 20 miles an hour in 10 seconds, and as a result it will be possible to run far more trains in the rush hours.
It is stated that, the new trains will be superior in every respect to any in the world.
