SYDNEY HORSES

GOLD ROD'S PEOGKESS

OAKLEIGH PLATE CANDIDATE PROSPECTS OF LADY CAV [FROM OUR OWN COHRESrONDENTJ SYDNEY, Jan. 13Glenora Boy, who is trained for Mr. C. G. Macindoe by J. T. Janiieson, followed up Jii.s I? and wick success by winning tlio Three and Four-year-old Handicap at Moorefield. . Starting favourite, lie shared the lead to the straight and went on to win comfortably. The colt was decidedly lame after the Taco, but he showed improvement during the week. The French horse Actor, whom Jamieson prepares for Mr. Sol Green, was given a rousing six furlongs gallop with Housemaster at the Rosebery races last Wednesday. Actor is settling down and should be in good trim for the autumn.

Shipley (Iliad —Dancing Doll) displayed unusual pace in his race at Moorefield and he shouid not be long in winning a race for Mr. H. Longworth. Bello Modele (Beau Pore— Baylock), a member of J. Pike's team, was a starter at this meeting, but failed to secure a place. (Belle Modele won at Canterbury Park on Saturday.)

Future ol Haut Monde It should not bo long before G. Price wins with Haut Monde. The gelding came home in good style in the J'oter Moore Cup. Haut Monde, who is improving with each race, was not strongly fancied. When Price returns from New Zealand he should find Gold Rod in firstclass condition. The horse has been entered for tho Oakleigh Plate, to be run at Caulfiold on February 12. Gold Rod, who comes to hand quickly, has been galloping brilliantly during the past few weeks. Egmont, another of Price's team, has been allotted 8.7 in the King's Cup, to bo run in Tasmania next month.

Adrian Knox Stakes Candidate G. Young looks to have a strong claim on the Adrian Knox Stakes with Lady Cav. The filly recently scored at a mile at Kosebery and on Tuesday last proved too good for the opposition in tho Menangle Park Hundred. Lady Car is ono of the few candidates for the important Randwick event who has won afc a mile.

,T. Fryer had no luck at the Epsom meeting in Melbourne last Saturday. Pantooh filled second plneo in the chief event, .tho J. L. Reilly Stakes, and Le Grand was beaten into third place in the Frankston Welter. Royal Quex was a runner in the samo ovent. Silver Bond, ono of Mr. G. J. Barton's team, was sent out second favourite for tho Chelsea Handicap and finished third.

Mala has again been put into work by Mr. Alan Cooper. The horse was in a very stubborn mood ono day this week, and it was only after a great deal of persuasion that he consented to work. Mala has done only light exercise to date.

TIME CONCESSIONS DRASTIC ELIMINATIONS RIGHT TO DECLINE ENTRIES NEGOTIATIONS FOR SPEEDY BOY [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN* CORRESPONDENT] CHRISTCIIURCH, Wednesday. Among the New Zealand horseS giving away time to be in the interDominion championships are Aide De Camp, Big Author, Bill 8., Double Great, Frisco Boy, Gallant • Knight, Icevus, Nervie's Last, Bingen Palm, U. Scott, Village Guy, and Plutus. Apparently the majority of the Australian nominations are not up to tho class required. The promoters will offer a travelling allowance of £IOO to each approved Australian horse, but it must start in at least three championship events. This will not allow much opportunity to start in slower class races at the meeting. Lack of knowledge of the form of most of the Australian entrants for the championships makes an instructive survey of tho lists impossible. In every event Indianapolis and Lawn Derby occupy the back line, suggesting that tho officials consider that there is nothing between these two outstanding pacers. With onp exception, the two-mile event, they have been set to give the maximum starts allowed under the conditions ruling tho championship meeting and it is certain that both will be well tested in the sprint events. Supertax, lioi L'Or and De Soto are close to the back-markers and horses of the calibre of Grand Mogul, King's Warrior, Lucky Jack and Willow Wave are set to give starts of 24 yards. • 4 Included on the list of limit horses in all the events are local pacers such as . Bill B. and Icevus, who are little better than maiden performers, and there is no doubt that some of tho Australian entrants on the same mark have little to reoommend them. It is the aim of the committee to have not more than three heats in any qualifying race and not more than 15 horses in any heat. It also reserves the right to refuse the acceptance of any horse. If the fields are to be kept within reasonable bounds, the championship committee may havo to exercise this power. Tho latest addition to S. A. Edwards' team is Eddie 'l'olan, who was formerly trained by M; C. McTigue at Methvcn. Eddie Tolan came from Southland with a reputation for speed and stamina but he has failed in Canterbury to go away correctly from the barrier.

Grand Mogul is again hoppled in his work and he gives every indication of having thrown off the lameness that came agairist him before the New Zealand Cup meeting. He has built up well in condition and ho has derived benefit from his spell. It is hoped he \Vill bo in racing order in time to take his place in the inter-Dominion championships.

Although it has been reported that Mr. G. J. Barton has completed the purchase of the Australian pjicor Speedy Boy, negotiations arc still proceeding. Not a great deal has boen seen of Speedy Boy since he canio to Aldington under J. Eraser, jun., and his work has not been of a serious nature, but he is an attractive mover. His purchase price is reported to be high, and if he changes ownership, as appears lilcely, it can bo taken for granted that Fraser has formed a good opinion of his capabilities. Smile Again, tho winner of the Poolburn Trot on tho second day of tfte Vincent Jockey Club's meeting, is a sister to Grand Mogul. For moro than 12 months sho has boen at Washdyke under tho care of P. Gallagher, but was only recently sufficiently advanced to go to tho races, as she received several setbacks. Now that she has reached winning form, she should go on to better company.
